Prof. Dr. Ahmet Tefekli
Urology Specialist | Urological Oncological Surgery – Endourology – Robotic Surgery
Prof. Dr. Ahmet Tefekli is a professor of urology specializing in robotic and laparoscopic surgery in the treatment of prostate, kidney and bladder cancers. He also has extensive clinical experience in kidney stone diseases and prostate diseases.
He graduated from Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1996 and completed his urology specialization at the same faculty in 2002.
He served as an observer at centers such as the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (1998) and the Cleveland Clinic (2005) in the USA, and received laparoscopic surgery training at the Heidelberg University SLK-Kliniken in 2006, becoming "one of the first formally trained urologists" in this field in Türkiye.
He pioneered the application of percutaneous nephrolithotomy and laparoscopic urology in state hospitals in Türkiye. He received da Vinci Robotic Surgery training at IRCAD-Strasbourg in 2010 and was among the first practitioners of this technology in our country.
Prof. Dr. Tefekli, who has over 75 publications internationally, has received over 7000 citations for his work and has an h-index of 42. He is a member of many associations such as the Turkish Urology Association, the European Urology Association and the Society of Robotic Surgery.
Albert Einstein University
In 1998, he was an 'observer' on experimental animal models at the Andrology Department of Albert Einstein University, School of Medicine, New York, and followed studies on 'electrical stimulation of the cavernous nerve' and 'gene therapies', and was instrumental in initiating experimental studies on this subject in our country.
Cleveland Clinic
Dr. Ahmet Tefekli visited the Cleveland Clinic, Urology Department in 2005 as an 'observer physician', and during this period he had the opportunity to personally observe Prof. Dr. Andrew Novick, Prof. Dr. Eric Klein and Prof. Dr. Indenbir Gill, who are very important names in Urology.
University of Heidelberg, Heilbronn
In 2006, he completed his laparoscopic surgery training by actively working as a 'guest doctor' under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Jens Rassweiler at the Urology Department of Heidelberg University, Heilbronn Training Hospital for 1 year. In this context, Dr. Ahmet Tefekli is one of the first urologists in our country to have received 'Formal Laparoscopic Surgery' training.
